Nicky Ferrada is an artist based in Vermont. The Shadows We Cast: A Star Seeker Tarot was born while everything she believed herself to be gradually fell away. What she learned in that time was to accept her shadow rather than fight it. Every one of the 79 cards is hand-illustrated by Nicky and digitally rendered in Photoshop, with no artificial intelligence used anywhere. Her palette runs to muted earth tones, celestial blues, warm golds and gentle botanical greens.

The deck keeps the full Rider-Waite-Smith structure of 22 Major and 56 Minor Arcana. One bonus card is added, which you can keep in the deck or set aside. The 101-page guidebook gives a page to every card with reversal keywords, a few exercises and spreads, in a voice that is gentle yet direct. It is a deck for shadow work that prefers compassion to confrontation.

The cards are borderless on 350gsm stock with a semi-matte finish and edges in matte midnight blue, in a rigid flip-box that holds the deck and its book. We source it direct from Nicky and send it from the UK.
