A 78-card photographic tarot born from sleep paralysis. Nicolas Bruno stages each card as a surreal night-scene. This Revised Edition is printed on 400gsm card with gold gilded edges, and comes with a booklet in a navy magnetic box.
The Somnia Tarot (Revised Edition) is a 78-card photographic tarot deck created by New York surrealist photographer Nicolas Bruno, who staged each card from his experiences of sleep paralysis and dream journals. It follows the traditional 78-card structure with 22 Major and 56 Minor Arcana, and is printed on full-bleed 400gsm card with gold gilded edges and foil-stamped details. It comes in a navy collection box with a matte linen finish and magnetic folding lid, with a printed booklet, an authenticity card and a bonus Pendulum Board card. The Guilded Veil holds it in UK stock at £65 and ships via Royal Mail.
The Somnia Tarot (Revised Edition) is a 78-card surreal dream tarot deck by artist and photographer Nicolas Bruno, reimagining the Rider-Waite-Smith system through fine-art photography, sculpture and costume design. Few decks capture the mysterious landscape of the unconscious and pre-conscious mind quite like it.
Blending fine art photography, sculpture, costume design and dream-inspired symbolism, this remarkable deck offers readers a unique opportunity to explore the shadowy realms of dreams, intuition and self-discovery.
The Somnia Tarot is a complete 78 image Tarot series created by Bruno, who is internationally recognised for his surreal photographic works inspired by sleep disorders, dreams and sleep paralysis.
The tale of the classic Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot is reimagined through multiple artistic mediums, resulting in a deck that feels both timeless and entirely original. Each card serves as a carefully sculpted visual narrative, inviting readers to engage with tarot in a deeply personal and intuitive way.
What makes the Somnia Tarot particularly fascinating is its connection to the dream world. Various characters, themes and symbolism associated with sleep paralysis are woven throughout the deck, creating powerful imagery that reflects the emotional and psychological landscapes explored within the Tarot. Bruno's work draws from dream journal recordings and personal experiences, giving the deck an authenticity that resonates with those interested in shadow work, dream interpretation and inner transformation.
The conception of the Somnia Tarot began during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, a period when many people found themselves turning inward and reflecting on life's deeper questions. Bruno devoted himself to the ambitious project, completing the full series in late November 2020. The result is a deck that not only honours traditional tarot archetypes but also captures the uncertainty, introspection and emotional complexity of a unique moment in modern history.
Following a highly successful independent crowdfunding campaign, the Somnia Tarot quickly gained a devoted following among tarot enthusiasts, artists and collectors around the world. Today, it is used globally by readers seeking a deeper connection to their unconscious and pre-conscious minds as well as those who wish to explore the symbolic language of dreams and nightmares.
The Revised Edition enhances the original deck with refined production quality and updated design elements while preserving the haunting beauty that first captivated audiences. The striking monochromatic photography creates an immersive atmosphere that allows the symbolism of each card to take centre stage. Every image feels like a scene pulled directly from a vivid dream, encouraging contemplation and personal interpretation.
Accompanied by a comprehensive guidebook, the deck is accessible to both experienced tarot readers and beginners. Whether used for daily guidance, meditation, creative inspiration or shadow work, the Somnia Tarot offers a rich and rewarding experience.
More than simply a tarot deck, the Somnia Tarot is a work of art and a journey into the hidden spaces of the mind. For those drawn to the mystical, the psychological and the beautifully surreal, it provides a powerful invitation to explore the wisdom that lies between sleeping and waking.
