Eugene Vinitski and Elsa Khapatnukovski

Where many decks borrow an existing system, Eugene Vinitski and Elsa Khapatnukovski have built three of their own.

Eugene Vinitski draws the cards and Elsa Khapatnukovski writes the books. Eugene publishes under the name Tarotmania, mostly through Kickstarter, with more than twenty original decks behind him. The three we stock are the ones we feel show the range best: Liber Somnia, a psychological tarot built on dreams and Jungian archetypes; The Madhouse Tarot, structured on the Kabbalistic Tree of Life and the Golden Dawn tradition, with historical visionaries in its court; and Time Tarot, inspired by sixteenth and seventeenth century Dutch painting, where pendulums, clock hands, hourglasses and astrolabes stand in for the suits.

Every deck is hand-drawn, developed over years rather than months and made without the use of AI. Each comes on 350gsm art paper with gilded edges, in a luxury box, with a full companion book written by Elsa rather than a folded leaflet and with a certificate numbered and signed by both of them. Each edition is limited to a thousand copies. The Madhouse Tarot has been through several printings since it was first made, 4,200 copies in all, while Liber Somnia and Time Tarot are each in their first.

Tarotmania names us as its UK partner, so their decks come to you from our shelves rather than from abroad. If you already own one of the three, you will find the others feel like a different system under the same hands.

Our reviews of their work

How to choose between them

Liber Somnia or The Madhouse Tarot: which first?
Liber Somnia if you are drawn to dreams, archetypes and the unconscious. The Madhouse Tarot if you want the structure of the Tree of Life and a deck that rewards study. Time Tarot sits between them and is the one to choose if the Dutch painting tradition speaks to you.
Are the decks numbered and signed?
Yes. Each of the three comes with a certificate numbered and signed by both Eugene and Elsa. Each edition is limited to a thousand copies.
Who draws the cards and who writes the guidebooks?
Eugene Vinitski draws every card by hand. Elsa Khapatnukovski writes the companion books, which run from 140 to 228 pages depending on the deck.
